NOT a trendy High School Musical Show. . . ..

No, we're not telling a tale about a plucky High School Chorus Coach, and his lovable, talented group of misfits (composed, of course, of ALL the politically correct groups. . . ).  Meet the Romeike Family. . . .

Uwe and Hannelore Romeike moved to the US from Germany in 2008, because they were threatened with losing their property and custody of their five children for the high crime of wanting to control their children's schooling.  Devout Christians,  Germany persecuted them for daring to think they knew better about what their children should learn than the Government did.  Fleeing Germany before they lost all their assets to fines, and custody of their children, they moved to Tennessee in 2008.  And filed for asylum, claiming religious persecution.  Which was granted in 2010, after showing a judge that they would be criminally persecuted for holding to their beliefs and home-schooling their children. . . .

But the Obama Justice Department claims that "home-schooling is not a fundamental right", and not a violation of the Romeike's human rights, and filed an appeal last year.  And now wants to deport them.

A few observations.  First, the Romeikes' came to America with 5 children: a sixth was born here in the US.  So, doesn't that make the youngest an Anchor Baby, for which deporting the rest of their family is supposedly violating the child's rights ??  Heck, the Feds don't seem too keen on deporting illegal aliens who have been here illegally for years, but it's ok to deport people recognized as refugees ????

And what of non-traditional schooling in Germany ??  Well, your children MUST be in a Government school or in an approved private school.   Unless, of course, they are followers of the Religion of Peace.  THEN, you can attend a Islamic Madrassah, entirely unsupervised or even monitored by the German government. Why, pray tell do Muslims get away with what other Germans can't ??   I'll let Reginald the Demon explain THAT to you.  . . (Note from the Wizard:  I miss YAAFM.  They stopped producing new episodes not long after the one I just linked came out.  A shame: in many ways, YAAFM was a spiritual predecessor to this blog. . . .)

The Romeikes have one more chance, an appeal to the Supreme Court.   There is also a Petition for the Feds to drop their appeal of the Asylum.   Your Wizard signed it, recommend you do too, dear readers. . .

A few days ago, I introduced you to Hava and Paul, a pair of newlyweds whose caretakers are keeping them apart.  Well, we can top that now.

Meet Thelma and Stanley Kessler, of Carson City, Nevada. . . . .

They've been married for 36 years.  But Carson City's Public Guardian is keeping them apart, except for brief, supervised visits. . .  The Guardian also decided that Stanley needed to be placed in a senior care facility, due to his  alleged dementia.  Mind you, he can discuss the plot of books he's read, but the Guardian (and a Judge) think he's too feeble-minded for him to make his own decisions.  OR, amazingly enough, that his wife Thelma was not taking good enough care of him to satisfy the Guardian, who not only institutionalized, but she's ALSO under court order not to say anything that might possibly upset him.  Because the Guardian apparently ALSO has the right to file for divorce.

The reason ?? Money.  Because the cost of Stanley's care is more than his $1500/month Social Security benefit.  Thelma, for some reason, can't guess WHAT it might be, doesn't trust the Public Guardian, who has also limited her visitation with her husband to ONE HOUR A WEEK.  Because the Guardian office has limited funding and staff, and can't spare any more time to "supervise" the weekly visit.

Even more interesting, is the lack of a formal medical evaluation, and Stanley's ability to maintain wide-ranging conversations.  He admits to being hard of hearing, and to some memory loss.  But that's not enough to separate a man and wife. . . . is it ????

Meanwhile, the crises at the White House continue to grow and even multiply. . .
When asked to comment, Obama Administration Press Spokesman Jay Carney was reported to say. . . . .

Until next time, we'll be back with more of. . . . .teh Burning Stoopid. . . .
