Teh Burning Stoopid is out there. . . ..

Heard about this one on the drive into work.  Apparently, some former Congresscritters, Senators, and an Astronaut are having a "Citizen's Commission" to reveal the deep, dark truth our Benevolent Government has been protecting us from, for the last 45 years.

They claim that not only are Aliens real, but that the Government is hiding the evidence that they've made Contact, years ago, and some even claim that the Aliens are secretly running the world. . .

Now, while that DOES rather nicely explain the Obama Administration, and resolve the Birth Certificate issue, does anyone REALLY believe that the United States Government is competent enough to have kept THAT secret since 1968 ???  Especially since politics got rough in the 1990s. . . .does ANYONE think the Dems wouldn't have outed the GOP on this, or vice versa ??

(and just to be fair. . . )

I know, I know, someone's going to mention shadowy conspiracies, "MAJESTIC 12", or the Men In Black (and your choice of Jesse Ventura and Alex Trebek, or Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. . .)

Well, to quote ET. . . this is reality.  SOMEONE would have gotten the data out. . .   look at everything a bloody PRIVATE FIRST CLASS could grab and leak to the world. . .  if there was anything but wish-fulfillment, we'd have evidence by now. . . .   NOTHING escapes the Net. . . . .

But it gets BETTER. . . .   it seems that today, it was chaired by former Congresswoman Carolyn Cheeks Kilpatrick of Detroit.  If that name sounds familiar, it's because her son, former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has been in and out of the news, and is currently waiting for sentencing on 24 counts of corruption.   And is the former Congresswoman doing all this out of a burning desire to let the truth free ??   Perhaps, but she ALSO made sure she got $20,000 plus expenses for the week in DC.   Nice work, if you can get it. . . .

So. . . . Trust no one. . . .   Teh Stoopid is out there, and it BURNS !!!!!

Teh Burning Stoopid, the WTF were they thinking edition. . .

There's a news story and link making the rounds today, about something so incredibly Burning Stoopid that it's earned the first Bronze WTF???? Cluster:

Lingerie for Men.   And we're not talking silky shorts or boxers, we're talking bras, panties, teddies, and stockings here.

Now, this isn't a new idea:  I remember 70's sitcoms.  Especially "One Day at a Time" .  Seeing this news, it reminded me of that show, one episode in particular, where the wacky apartment superintendent/ handyman, "Scheider", rolled out his "Bra for Men: The Bro. . ."

Now, from the website, it seems like very ordinary stuff, just marketed at guys. . .

But, seriously, who would buy this stuff ???  And asking the wife, she tells me it's highly overpriced as well.

I mean, come on, gang, if you LIKE dressing up in women's clothing  (and perhaps even hanging around in bars. . . ) you can get better, cheaper and discretely via mail order: guys buy it all the time for their ladyloves, if they REALLY wanted some, just add to the order. . .  And it at least could look memorable, as the example of this sweet transvestite shows. . .

I simply cannot see the appeal of this, and am frankly ASTOUNDED that this firm has been selling this for ~4 years now. . .  other than a clearly, shall we say, FLAMING case of. . . Teh Burning Stoopid. . . .

Today's Smoldering Stoopid: 5th Grader on Camping Trip causes exactly no harm with a Swiss Army Knife. .

There's one thing you CAN rely on California for:  Industrial-strength Stoopid in warehouse quantities.

Today's Burning Stoopid Award goes to the Cupertino Union School District, in Cupertino, California.  Apparently, they hold a week-long nature camp in the Marin Headlands, north of San Francisco.

Which brings us to the story of young Braden Bannerman.  A fifth-grader growing up in the heart of Silicon Valley, on this week-long voyage into Nature.  And amongst the items he packed for this trip, was a simple Swiss Army Knife.  Yep.  The FIRST Multi-tool, LONG pre-dating the Leatherman.

I'm sure you can guess what happened next.  A teacher saw that Braden had, in his possession, the dreaded and deadly Swiss Army Knife.   A Conniption was had.  Authorities were notified.  Thank God he also didn't have a lighter, he might have . . . . .  MacGyvered something, and we just can't have that. . .

They called his parents, claiming he had a "weapon", and needed to be suspended, or possibly even expelled.

But it gets better.  Seems, his father was on a business trip, ~100 miles away, and was demanded to drive back, pick up his son for a day, and after the day's suspension, drive back and drop him off.   Minus, of course, the High-Capacity Assault Swiss Army Knife of Mass Destruction. . .

Bannerman, Senior, basically  told the School District to stick their demand where the sun don't shine.  Get a kid in trouble for carrying a Swiss Army Knife on a CAMPING trip ??   I mean, what were they smok- - -   nevermind, it's California, we know what was being smoked. . .

Yes, friends, again, we heap scorn on the idiotic idea of "Zero Tolerance".  Especially zero-tolerance of things that AREN'T weapons.  There have been numerous examples lately.   Like the Cupcakes decorated with Toy Soldiers confiscated by a Michigan Elementary School. . .   Or that evil, Assault Pop-Tart in Maryland.  Or that Marine Corps T-shirt that was deemed "problematical" because it had crossed images of rifles on it. . .

Mind you, "zero tolerance" was originally a decent, if not perfect idea.  But today's hyper-paranoia claiming that Toy Soldiers were "weapons of war",  or a Marine Corps T-shirt was inciting violence, are beyond idiotic, and have ventured into a place beyond judgement and intelligence.  A place devoid of logic.  A zone we call. . . .  Teh Burning Stoopid.

And today's runner-up: the City of Philadelphia, which has decided to fund the sex-change operations of its' employees.  Because for a nearly bankrupt city, in the midst of economic hard-times, societal strife and international trouble, this is the prevailing issue of our day and age.  Riiiiiiiiight. . . .

Occaisional Post: the Lexicon

Occasionally, there isn't a word that properly describes an event or phenomena.   And the lovely thing about the English language, is that it's adaptable.  So here are a few words I've coined to better describe  certain types of events.  The list will grow over time, and link to similar descriptions elsewhere.

Our first word: "Trayvoning".   The practice of substituting an old photo of a much younger version of an accused perpetrator, for a recent and more accurate photo.  The classic case is that of Trayvon Martin in which these photos:

. . . .were generally used to depict the late Mr. Martin. . . .  where more recent photos showed a very different Trayvon. . .

We've seen this happen again recently with the Boston Marathon Bombings, with a photo of a young Dzokhar Tsarnaev attached to a petition for a "fair trail". . .

. .  .versus the photos, the day of the bombing. . .

It's a fairly standard, and quite pitiful method of trying to frame opinion about someone who is nowhere as clean and innocent as some people try to make them look. . . .

So what if we don't own the place, we want what we want WAAAAAAAH!!!

We have an early entry today for the Catalog, the Campaign to Save the Book House.

Apparently, there's a not-terribly successful but beloved bookstore that operates out of an old house in the St. Louis area.   And they've rented that house for 30 years.   The owner has decided to not renew the lease, because they have a better use for the land.  And so, at the end of the year, the "Book House" is going to be torn down.

This, of course, has all the Caring and Sensitive people up in arms, because they claim that it's a "Community Resource".    Funny, I look at it as a retail outlet, and since, in 30 years of operation, they haven't earned sufficient money from it to buy the property outright, it's a case of "too bad, so sad. . . "

Then someone I knew vaguely from FB posted about it, and when I noted that it sounded like the store proprietors simply didn't make a decent offer for it, I got lambasted.

So I looked the place up.

Google Plus listing: The Book House

The advocates wax poetic about an architecturally historic and an overall beautiful structure. . .

I see a nondescript old house of no particular distinction, a bit run down, filled to the rafters with books, on what appear to be either home-made or salvaged bookshelf units.

I also note the key points of the first reviewer on Google Plus:

There may even be a cat inside, but watch your head in the attic portion, this building is old & doesn't meet ADA/code, so use the restrooms gently. The staff seems knowledgeable. Here's my thoughts from a book lover's perspective - 1. They do not buy or trade books. 2. Prices are non-negotiable, this includes books without dustjackets, foxing pages inside, moldy scents, etc. The current books I had interest in, were too expensive for me to purchase, but maybe you'll find a good bargain there.

Gee, guess they aren't selling a lot of those books.  And it's hard to get around in, and not ADA compliant.   No wonder they can't get the money up to buy the place.  Well, that and a portion of their profits apparently go to several causes in their community.  Which is all well and fine. . . but doesn't exempt them from economics.   They RENT the building.  The Owner wants to use the land for something else, and they've had a year's notice.  An intelligent retailer would be prepping for a move, etc.  Instead, these people whine.  And THAT is what has entered them in the Catalog today.

But I looked further: they have a Facebook page as well. . .

And what do I find there ???  Offers to get this nondescript building, in a commercially-zoned area (it's all strip malls and small offices. . .) into a Historic Register, prohibiting the owner from realizing their investment in the property.

And a Greenpeace guy offering to bring lawyers in. . .

This is what truly infuriates me: people demanding someone ELSE give up something so THEY can get what they want, or keep something they like.  Are these volunteers raising money to BUY the place ?  Not that I've seen, but that doesn't matter. . .  they want you to call City Hall, and whine at the developer. . .

Ah yes, the tyranny and soft fascism of the Caring. . . . because their feelings OBVIOUSLY must over-ride the interests of the people who actually OWN and have been paying the property taxes on it for years. . .

Yet another entry in the endless Catalog of Teh Burning Stoopid. . .

Oh, and today's runner-up:

Today's Burning Stoopid: the Gun-grabbers. . .

And today's flaming example of Teh Burning Stoopid is. . . .

. . . the Anti-Gun movement.

Remember, just a few weeks ago the President was telling us that 90% of Americans supported background checks ??   Riiiiiiiiiiight. . . .  90% of Americans wouldn't support Chocolate and Bacon, much less the pronouncements of the Ear Leader.

For example, that 90% figure. . .

(Source: The Washington Post)

And Obama's anger at the "lies" of the NRA and the "Gun Lobby" ???

And how that anger by the public for the Senate ignoring that 90% figure would rise up ??

Well. . . . .  not so much, apparently. . .

Today, there was a visible demonstration of the magnitude of that anger in Washington . . .

That's right. . . the mighty, overwhelming anger of the anti-gun movement in our nation's capitol was. . . .under 100 people.  INCLUDING the media coverage.

So, there's good news here: while the Gun-grabbers won today's Burning Stoopid runoff  (the runner-up was the mother of the Boston Bombers, claiming America had corrupted her children. . . )

I'll be back soon, with another mind-bogglingly idiotic entry into. . .

The Catalog of Teh Burning Stoopid. . . .

Wednesday, April 24, 2013

And so, it begins. . .

Not sure what it is, but there seems to be a growing epidemic of Teh Burning Stoopid out there these days.   I'm going to attempt to give a particularly egregious example every day. . .

And so, we're off to see anything BUT the Wizard. . .

Submitted for your consideration:

This petition.

https://www.change.org/petitions/petition-to-guarantee-dzhokhar-tsarnaev-the-right-to-a-fair-trial
First, let's look at the picture of Suspect 1 and 2, as the Tsarnaev Brothers were originally identified:

Funny, but the petition site shows a MUCH younger picture of Dzhokhar.  Making him look young and innocent.

We've seen this before, and in fact, since it's a trend, I'm going to give it a name: Trayvoning.

Remember the Trayvon Martin case ???  We kept being shown photos of a bright-eyed 12 year old:

What was the reality ??  THIS 6'2" 180-pound thug. . .

A similar tone is found in an NYC professor's blog, also claiming that "excessive force" was used.   Right.  KNOWN identified bombers, who then attacked police sent to arrest them with both guns AND explosives, and who killed a cop, and grievously injured another . . . .and we're supposed to be worried about excessive force ?  Especially when the surviving brother RAN OVER his older in his escape ???

It's. . .flamingly. . . obvious, but those who think the Tsarnaev Brothers are innocent and were treated too harshly are today's entry in the Catalog of Teh Burning Stoopid. . . .
